Library Expansion

Building Project

The Library Board and Staff worked aggressively on the building project: Preparing a case statement, continuing to meet as needed with architect Vernon Reed and professional fund-raiser Tim Barry, and setting up informational meetings with various organizations throughout the county. All of their ideas were put on hold until the timing seemed better

The Fall of 2008, a community advisory board was formed.  This committee, with board members & the director have met several times. No decisions have been made at this time.
 

Purpose for Expansion

A good community library is one of the things that draws businesses and people to the community.  We feel our library has been a very important asset to our county.  

While space was ample when the building was first constructed in 1966, library services and holdings have since grown and now most areas are overcrowded. With the addition of 14 computers (with 6 available to the public) to the library, space is even more at a premium. In the last few years there has been an increasing interest in genealogy research. There is often several people using the research facilities of the library at the same time and at times there is virtually no space for them to work. 

In order to maintain the level of quality service and materials that the library has been able to offer its patrons and to meet the needs of the community, especially for our children and college students, we need to expand the library.  With this building project, we would expect to meet ADA requirements.

Expansion Plan

Throughout the years, library personnel and library board members have been good stewards of tax money.  At the present time, there is a balance in the library building fund of approximately $300,000. 

The library has an architect's plan for an expansion of the present building that could help us realize our goal.  We hope to accomplish this project through donations and memorials.
